ABO Wind to build its first wind farm in Poland

15/09/2020

  • Construction of Donaborów wind farm is scheduled to start in 2021
  • The 19.8 megawatts project has received a fixed tariff
  • Six employees in the new Lodz office are working on wind and solar energy projects

ABO Wind is off to a strong start in Poland. The company’s first Polish project will be constructed in 2021. Donaborów wind farm is located about 90 kilometres northeast of Wroclaw and is planned to consist of 9 Siemens Gamesa SG114 turbines with a total output of 19.8 megawatts. ABO Wind had secured a fixed feed-in tariff in a previous auction in 2019. "We are delighted to reach this first milestone and to contribute to the energy turnaround in Poland," says Senior Project Manager Agnieszka Godycka-Ćwirko.

ABO Wind has been active in Poland since 2019 and opened an office in Lodz earlier this year. The six local employees are now working on various renewable energy projects and maintaining close contacts with regional partners. The Polish team currently focuses on the development of solar greenfield projects. "Poland plans to increase its share of green electricity to 32 percent by 2030. We would like to play our part in making this happen," explains Roman Karbowy, Senior Project Manager in Lodz. "Because restrictions for new wind farms are high, we are especially looking for areas that are suitable for large-scale solar farms," says Karbowy. In 2019, one gigawatt of new solar capacity was installed in Poland, ranking the country fifth in the European Union.

The German company ABO Wind has been developing and implementing renewable energy projects for nearly 25 years. Today, ABO Wind is present in 16 countries on four continents and has approximately 700 employees. The company has realised energy projects with a total capacity of more than 3,000 megawatts worldwide.
