Kawasaki Subsea (UK) Limited have been established in Aberdeen, Scotland since 2019, as a 100% subsidiary of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., Japan for the purpose of specializing in the production, sales, and post-sale services of AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle).
Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. have built and delivered more than 80 submarines since completing construction of Japan’s first submarine and have attained many great achievements in the field of underwater technologies as a pioneer of submarine construction in Japan.
Kawasaki groups aim to apply our technologies to develop a commercial AUV for inspection and maintenance of underwater facilities in the oil & gas, the renewable energy products here in Scotland.
Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) “SPICE”
Kawasaki has been developing state-of-the-art underwater technologies, and employing specialist know-how and is now developing leading key technologies for AUV operation. The offshore oil & gas industry is targeted as the initial market, in particular, maintenance work of subsea pipelines laid on the seabed.
“SPICE” (Subsea Precise Inspector with Close Eyes) is an AUV system including subsea docking station, developed by Kawasaki. SPICE is now focused on long distance pipeline inspection jobs.
SPICE has a Robot Arm which can realize several closed inspections of pipeline, and a non-contact recharging system and high data rate transfer system in underwater. In combination with subsea docking station, SPICE can continue operations without frequent launch and recovery.
SPICE contributes to the reduction of operating costs, and mitigation of HSE risk during subsea inspection.
