Description

JODCO's involvement in the petroleum industry in Abu Dhabi started in 1973 with its participation in the Umm Shaif and the Lower Zakum fields within the Abu Dhabi Marine Areas (ADMA) concession, in partnership with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), British Petroleum (now BP) of Great Britain, and CFP (now TOTAL) of France.

A few years later, JODCO joined in the development of three oil fields with ADNOC; the Upper Zakum field in 1977, the Umm Al Dalkh in 1978 and the Satah field in 1980. Successful production from these three fields began during the 1980s.

Three Operating Companies were set up for the projects: the Abu Dhabi Marine Areas Operating Company (ADMA-OPCO) in 1977 to operate ADMA concession including the Umm Shaif and the Lower Zakum fields, the Zakum Development Company (ZADCO) in 1977 to develop the Upper Zakum field, and the Umm Al Dalkh Development Company (UDECO) in 1978 to develop the Umm Al Dalkh and the Satah fields. The activities of UDECO were later amalgamated with ZADCO in 1988 in order to optimize operation control and minimize costs.
