Seiche

Description

Seiche specialises in the design, development and manufacture of underwater measurement and acoustic systems together with advanced visual detection systems.

Formed in 1996 to undertake underwater acoustics research projects, the company was involved in worldwide supply of PAM equipment to the oil and gas and renewable energy industries with a proven track record exceeding 140,000 days of deployment.

Seiche provides a range of solutions for passive acoustic monitoring from simple single hydrophones to state of the art low noise optical data transmission systems. Bespoke engineered solutions can be provided on request. The company has developed solutions for sound source and underwater noise measurement utilising various deployment techniques to suit different environments.

Seiche provides camera solutions using HD Video, Thermal Imaging and hand held iPads. The company’s proprietary software for Real-time Automated Distance Estimation at Sea (RADES) enables accurate assessment of a marine mammals distance from a sound source.

Seiche has a global reach via three main offices in the UK, USA, and South Africa. The company maintains strong partnerships and relationships with industry, academics, and government agencies around the world.

SERVICES

Modelling
Seiche has collaborated with Plymouth University, the University of Bath and ZCAT Science Limited, combining their comprehensive knowledge of underwater sound propagation, computational algorithms and practical knowledge of the marine environment. The Seiche team specialises in modelling propagation of a seismic source over short-term cycles and has particular experience of working in Arctic waters, including dynamic river environments. The team provides a comprehensive range of services in underwater acoustic modelling.

Measurement
In partnership with Bath University and ZCAT Science, Seiche has developed wide expertise throughout the entire process of sound measurement. The company's knowledge of equipment, field operation and data analysis enables the team to provide a complete suite of measurement services. Seiche have technicians/acousticians on standby to complete in-field operations to a commercial time frame. Data analysts work in-house under expert guidance.

Mitigation
Regulatory requirements for effective noise mitigation have increased, particularly for the protection of whales and dolphins. It is now standard practice across several industry sectors to use passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) to detect vocalising marine mammals, in real-time, to ensure none are within close proximity of an active sound source.

Seiche is the leading supplier of PAM equipment worldwide. The company provide a range of solutions, from simple over-the-side hydrophones to the most highly advanced low-noise digital arrays.

Seiche have been at the forefront of the development of PAM technology since the 1990s, and have successfully completed a wide range of projects around the world, supplying to the oil and gas, renewables, defence and civil engineering industries.
