TGS is a publicly traded company with financial headquarters in Asker, Norway and is traded on the Oslo Stock Exchange under the symbol TGS. The company has employees based in cities around the globe, which include offices in Asker, Stavanger, Houston, London, Brazil and Perth.

TGS provides multi-client geoscience data and services to oil and gas Exploration and Production companies around the globe. TGS’ geophysical and geological data products include multi-client seismic libraries, permanent reservoir monitoring, magnetic and gravity data, the industry’s largest global database of digital well logs and regional interpretive products. TGS also provides high-end depth imaging services to help resolve complex seismic imaging problems.

TGS provides global geoscientific data products and services to the oil and gas industry to assist with licensing rounds and the preparation of regional data programs. TGS invests in multi-client data projects in frontier, emerging and mature markets worldwide that make up a data library of seismic imaging, well data and interpretive products and services. 

History

TGS was founded in Houston in 1981 and over time built the dominant 2D multi-client data library in the Gulf of Mexico. The company expanded further into North America and West Africa and added a substantial 3D portfolio in the Gulf of Mexico. Also in 1981, NOPEC was founded in Oslo and began building an industry-leading multi-client 2D database in the North Sea, with additional operations in Australia and the Far East. In 1997, NOPEC went public on the Oslo Stock Exchange. In 1998, the companies merged to form TGS-NOPEC Geophysical Company (TGS), creating a winning combination for investors, customers and employees. Since then, TGS has set the standard for geoscientific data around the world.
