Description
Simwell Resources Ltd is a privately funded E&P company focussed on building a portfolio of gas and oil assets across Europe. It concentrates on exploration for and evaluation of new plays as well as stranded or undeveloped gas prospects, with the intention of employing new and innovative ideas to improve the understanding of the assets. As of 2019, Simwell has also begun to investigate the acquisition of oil or gas development projects.
Its focus areas are the European Continental Shelf – the UKCS, Eire, Netherlands and Denmark.
The Company has recently been focused on building its portfolio in the UK sector of the emerging Southern North Sea Zechstein plays on the northern and western margins of the Permian Basin. Simwell believes that this play will be an important addition to the more traditional targets in the region and is proving that significant gas reserves may yet be discovered.
History
In early 2015, the Company was awarded three licences in the 28th Round of UK Licensing. At the same time the company also acquired an interest in Block113/27d in the East Irish Sea, where newly interpreted seismic data has revealed updip gas potential in excess of 200bcf in the Castletown gas field. In August 2015, the Company reached an agreement to farm-in and acquire an interest in three blocks in Quadrants 41 and 42 in the SNS.
As part of its focus on the Zeckstein as well as the Carboniferous fairways on the northern margin of the Permian Basin, the Company then farmed in to three licences in Quadrants 37 and 43 in Q3 2015. Some of these licenses were subsequently relinquished. The company made applications in the 29th Licencing Round and was awarded three licenses. Simwell applied again in the 30th and 31st UK Licensing Round and was awarded two more licenses.
The Company is based in south west London, where it maintains a small but very experienced technical and commercial team, who have a track record of building successful businesses.
